Poor Career Advice For Young People.

Standard

I got a couple of emails recently. Both had graduated from the same school decades apart.  One introduced to me a young man who had recently graduated and was looking for a job.

A solid networking strategy is to reach out to your Alumni.  I went to the University of Western Ontario which is a long way from where I sit in Orange County, CA.  Yet I can do a LinkedIn search and plug in my zip code and the school name and over 100 people who went to Western pop up. I Heard The News today that the Internet is 25 Years Old.

Standard

I got one of my numerous emails today. The article said that the Internet was 25 years old this month.

We have all seen the stats. There are trazillions of emails sent every day, a billion people on Facebook, billions of searches daily.  I have a PowerPoint of my own stats. It’s on Slideshare. You get the plot.

Working in the New Normal.

Standard

I got some emails from people in the Old Normal this week.  I don’t live there anymore. I left it long ago.  I didn’t see much of a future there for me.

Establishing a broad network takes lots of personal investment. Some people want others to do their work for them. Continue reading

How Well Does Your Agency Handle Rejection?

Standard

New Business in the Agency game is a very tough road.  It is a game comprised largely of rejection if you are in a pitch with other agencies.  That is why that is not the optimum way of getting New Business. I know.  I have hunted for New Business all my life.  I am a consultant and have to create my job each and every day.  My dinner comes from what I win. There is no time in my life to coast.

I have also had the pleasure of conducting agency reviews for a number of clients including Jenny Craig, Jacuzzi, Toyo Tires and many other companies. Continue reading
